Training has been essential as the most important and
fundamental element in the sustainable development
and empowerment of the farmers. The application of
training has also been utilized in the modification
of the cultivation patterns, presentation of organic
principles and the transfer of valuable scientific
discoveries to the operational levels.
All trainings are appropriate to the farmers’ needs and
designed to increase their technical knowledge and
strengthen their farm management abilities with the
objective of preserving the natural environment of the farm.
Implementing The Idea of Organic
The organic operation is made possible through establishing a
school within the farm, also known as “the Farmer Field School”
Establishing a school within the farm: Farmer Field School
One of the important aspects of the strategy of saffron
production concentrates on the training programs at the farm.
These programs are designed according to the needs of the farmers
in order to increase the technical knowledge and to reinforce the
farm management capabilities of the farmers.
The objective is to focus on the preservation of the natural environment.
The trainings are practical and progressive aiming to change the attitudes
of the farmers by replacing the inefficient common farm practices with the
fundamentals of the organic farming, thereby increasing the productivity of
the manufacturing factors as well as correcting the processing pattern.
This type of training has proved to be most effective for the target group
having an average age of sixty five.
The teachings of the farming principles and concepts as well as the production
instructions take place at a number of educational and research farms known as
the training centers. This important task is conducted with the participation
of farmers, the village’s saffron producers along with a select training team
of experts and specialists in the areas of plant pathology, agriculture and
agroecology. On the average, over 84 hours of workshops and theoretical as well
as practical training programs are presented annually. The Farmers Field School
approach is one of the successful programs of the production of organic saffron strategy.
The Environmental Impacts of the Project Implementation
- Reforming of the regional eco-system; improvement and enhancement of water
and soil safety in the event of the chemical compounds occurrence within the
ecological cycle of the village
- Stopping and reversing of the population migration trend from rural to the urban areas
- The increase in motivation and the income generation due to the added value of the saffron production in the village
- Improving the general health of the farmers and the rural households through the removal
of the chemical inputs and the side effects of the toxins in the nature
- Enhancement of the diversified and sustainable
employment opportunities which are in harmony with the rural
environment and the cropping pattern, especially in creating
employment opportunities for women
- Assist in raising the public awareness of the rural residents
to understand the need to maintain the balance in their use
of resources paying special attention to the region’s ecological
capability and the production resources in agriculture for the
purpose finding equilibrium for the development of the rural society.
- Stimulation of the local capital markets to explore the new resources in
order to activate the potential capacity of the rural society
- To achieve the technical knowledge crucial for the
production of the organic saffron and to edit the methods and guidelines
- To create a collaborative monitoring and control system in the rural society
